The Green Mountain Boys first organized amid the disputes over the New Hampshire Grants, and Ethan Allen became their best-known leader. In May 1775, Allen and the Green Mountain Boys joined Benedict Arnold in the capture of Fort Ticonderoga, one of the first major American successes of the Revolutionary War. \u003cspan class=\"contents\"\u003e\u003cspan class=\"\"\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"auto\"\u003eThe historic banner is remembered for its distinctive \u003cstrong\u003egreen field and blue canton scattered with thirteen white stars\u003c\/strong\u003e, representing the thirteen American colonies.
